Why I Create Chinese-Themed Christian Designs
Share
If you’ve looked through CTRL ALT BELIEVE’s collection of Christian t-shirts and designs, you’ve probably noticed something unique: many of them feature Chinese and East Asian themes. People often ask me why I create so many Chinese-inspired Christian designs, so here’s the story behind it.
A Personal Connection
The most obvious reason is family. My wife is Chinese, and I’ve learned conversational Mandarin over the years. Our home life is shaped by both Western and Chinese traditions, and that naturally shows up in my artwork. Designing pieces that reflect Chinese symbols and aesthetics feels authentic to who I am and who we are as a family.
Christianity Is for the Whole World
But the bigger reason is this: Christianity is not owned by any one culture. No group has a monopoly on the faith. From the very beginning, the message of Jesus has been for all nations, all peoples, all languages. The global church is a mosaic, and I love seeing how different cultures throughout history have represented Jesus and the Apostles in their own style. My designs aim to celebrate that diversity and highlight how faith transcends borders.
East Asian Aesthetics and Cyberpunk Inspiration
Lastly, though less important, it’s simply an aesthetic I love. I’ve always been drawn to the cyberpunk art style: neon lights, futuristic skylines, layered cityscapes, the beauty of hanzi calligraphy. And since cyberpunk often draws from East Asian cultural imagery, it felt natural to blend those visual elements with my Christian design work. The result is a bold, modern expression of timeless truth.
Faith Across Cultures, Art Across Styles
At the end of the day, my Chinese-themed Christian t-shirts and art are about more than visuals. They’re about showing that the gospel belongs everywhere and to everyone. They’re about celebrating the global church and reimagining how ancient faith can intersect with modern and cross-cultural aesthetics.
